Are there DTS improvements in Windows Server 2008 that would justify
upgrading from Windows 2003 to Windows 2008? The SQL Server instance we
currently have is not in a cluster. I've read about improvements for
clustering, but haven't seen anything else about improvements.

ggreeson,

Do you mean: Is SQL Server Data Transformation Services (DTS) significantly
improved by Windows Server 2008? That answer is 'No, not really.' DTS is
still running as a legacy service from SQL Server 2000.

Or, were you referring to some other DTS?

I typed DTS but meant DTC or Distributed Transaction Coordinator.

ggreeson,

Ah, DTC! (Sorry that I did not guess that.)

There may be many efficiencies in Windows 2008 that might move you to
upgrade, but I doubt that DTC is significantly different. Since it
communicates between machines to manage the distributed transaction, there
is a certain amount of unavoidable overhead.

Perhaps if someone knows better, they will comment. You might also post to
.server or .programming to see if you can get more help.
