We have 2 SQLServers 2005 std, both on windows 2003 servers 64 bit. On one
server the DTS works fine but on another the following error appears;

SQL Server 2000 DTS Designer components are required to edit DTS packages.
Install the special Web download, "SQL Server 2000 DTS Designer Components"
to use this feature.

If the "SQL Server 2000 DTS Designer Components" download is already
installed, there might be a problem with the compatibility of icons
persisted in this DTS package. See the following KB article for more
details: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917406
(Microsoft.SqlServer.DtsObjectExplorerUI)

I have attempted to repair the tools via control panel add/remove programs -
no effect. And also tried re-installing from the disk but it states that it
is already installed. Besides un-installing & re-installing what else can be
done to have the DTS working to produce / edit DTS packages.

Many thanks for any help received

Regards
Nigel

nigel,

I believe that you also need to install the "Microsoft SQL Server 2005
Backward Compatibility Components" which can be found at the same download
location as the "Microsoft SQL Server 2000 DTS Designer Components", namely:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=d09c1d60-a13c-4479-9b91-9e8b9d835cdc&displaylang=en

Hope that helps,
